About

Our story

The premise of Third Space Leiden is simple yet ambitious: to create a space where music, encounter, and creation flow into one another — where visitors are not only guests but active participants.

Why Leiden?

Leiden sits in a unique position as a university city in the Randstad, hosting a continuous influx of international students and young professionals. This dynamic creates a temporary yet constant need for social infrastructures that connect different groups. We want to build Third Space with the community, for the community.

What happens here?

Through open calls, anyone can sign up to organise workshops, exhibit art, host community dinners, run live music nights, clothing swaps, yard sales, queer nights, and safe space events. Every idea is welcome under the banner of Third Space Leiden.

The vision

Imagine a room where during the day, you find your friends, build something together, and share a coffee at long tables on comfy couches. As the afternoon turns to evening, a vinyl DJ plays some tunes, the bar opens, and the space becomes energetic yet relaxed — stimulating connection and conversation. After seeing spaces rapidly close around Leiden, we know the community wants this. So let’s build it together.
